Prime Video has finally given fans their first proper look at Blade Runner 2099, the next chapter in the legendary science fiction franchise. The first teaser was unveiled during the streaming platform’s Comic Con panel, where stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer joined showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson to introduce the series. Set fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, the new limited series presents a very different version of Los Angeles, where humans are no longer in control. The complete series will premiere on November 25 on Prime Video.
The story follows Cora, played by Hunter Schafer, a woman who has spent years on the run. Hoping to leave her troubled past behind, she takes on one final identity by becoming a Blade Runner. However, her mission quickly becomes far more dangerous than she expected. She is forced to work with Olwen, a dying Replicant played by Michelle Yeoh, to hunt down a mysterious fugitive whose secret could destroy the fragile balance holding the city together. The teaser hints at a world filled with fear, violence, and uncertainty as Cora struggles to survive while questioning everything she once believed.
One of the biggest surprises in the new series is the complete shift in power. According to showrunner Silka Luisa, a massive Replicant uprising has taken place in the years since Blade Runner 2049. The war ended with humans losing, leaving Replicants as the rulers of Los Angeles while humans have become second class citizens. The teaser captures this dramatic change with stunning visuals and emotional moments as Cora wonders how much longer humans can survive in a world that no longer belongs to them. Meanwhile, Olwen believes it is finally the Replicants’ time to lead, creating a powerful conflict between the old world and the new.
Luisa explained that the series is inspired not only by the previous Blade Runner films but also by Philip K. Dick’s famous novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which inspired the original movie. She said the longer television format gave the creative team the chance to explore more of this futuristic world, answer questions fans have had for years, and tell the story from the Replicants’ point of view. The series focuses on deep emotional themes, including identity, survival, and the fear of death, while showing how both humans and Replicants struggle to find their place in a changing world.
The project also benefits from the involvement of Blade Runner 2049 writer Michael Green and original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, both serving as executive producers. Luisa said everyone involved understood the importance of continuing such an iconic franchise and took great care to respect its legacy while creating something fresh for a new generation. Along with Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, the series features a strong supporting cast including Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, Maurizio Lombardi, and Amy Lennox. With its gripping story, stunning visuals, and fresh perspective on one of science fiction’s most celebrated worlds, Blade Runner 2099 promises to be one of the most anticipated streaming releases of the year when it arrives on November 25.
