Vijay’s Jana Nayagan continued its steady run at the Indian box office on its second day, collecting approximately Rs. 24 crore. With this, the film’s two day total has reached around Rs. 75.25 crore gross across India. Based on its current trend, the film is expected to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark on its third day. The four day extended opening weekend is now projected to finish in the range of Rs. 140 crore to Rs. 145 crore, giving the film a strong start despite several challenges before its release.
Tamil Nadu remained the biggest contributor to the film’s business. The movie collected approximately Rs. 14.50 crore in the state on its second day, taking its two day total there to around Rs. 42.00 crore. Although the film received mixed reactions from audiences and critics, it managed to avoid a sharp decline in collections. The third day is expected to show further growth, with collections in Tamil Nadu likely to touch around Rs. 20 crore. If that happens, the opening weekend in the state alone is expected to cross Rs. 80 crore, keeping the film on track for a final total of more than Rs. 100 crore in Tamil Nadu. Its performance on Monday will play an important role in determining how far it can go after the weekend.
Outside Tamil Nadu, the film recorded a drop in collections on its second day. However, the decline appears to be smaller than what was seen for Vijay’s previous release The Greatest of All Time, suggesting that Jana Nayagan is holding up reasonably well in other markets too.
The film’s performance becomes even more notable when viewed in the context of its release journey. Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to arrive in January but faced delays because of certification issues. During that period, the film was leaked online and was widely watched before its official theatrical release. After several months of uncertainty, the release date was confirmed only a few days before it finally reached cinemas. Despite these setbacks, the film has managed to attract large audiences to theatres, highlighting Vijay’s strong fan following and box office appeal.
From a financial point of view, the film carries a high production cost, with a significant portion reportedly going towards the lead actor’s remuneration. Recovering the full investment may be difficult unless the overall financial burden is reduced through other arrangements. However, for cinema owners and exhibitors, Jana Nayagan is expected to provide steady business over the coming weeks, especially in Tamil Nadu.
