A day after the trailer of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was unveiled on July 30, veteran actor Nitish Bharadwaj, who is fondly remembered for portraying Lord Krishna in B.R. Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat, shared his thoughts on the film through a detailed Instagram post. Calling the trailer a landmark moment for Indian cinema, Bharadwaj praised its scale, visual effects, production design, cinematography and Hans Zimmer’s collaboration with the makers. He even expressed confidence that Ramayana has the potential to earn global recognition.
While appreciating the film, Bharadwaj also had a personal message for Ranbir Kapoor, who essays the role of Lord Ram. Referring to the actor’s performance in Animal, he urged Ranbir to recognise the responsibility that comes with portraying one of India’s most revered cultural figures. Bharadwaj appealed to him not to take up films like Animal in the future, saying he should now use his voice and screen presence to uphold India’s heritage, values, culture and ethos.
Bharadwaj also welcomed Yash’s portrayal of Ravana, expressed hope that audiences would wholeheartedly accept Sai Pallavi as Sita, and said he wished to hear the spiritual essence of the Ramayana reflected through its music. Concluding his note, he said he looked forward to watching the film at least five times as a mark of respect for the years of hard work invested by director Nitesh Tiwari and the entire team.
Bharadwaj’s remarks have since sparked a wider conversation on whether actors who portray revered mythological figures carry a greater social responsibility in choosing their roles beyond such landmark performances.
