Disney has revealed the first look at its upcoming live action adaptation of Tangled, giving fans their first glimpse of the actors bringing the popular animated characters to life. The studio showed footage from the movie during its Entertainment Showcase at D23 on Friday night, August 14, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
The preview featured Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, complete with the character’s famous long blonde hair and purple dress. Milo Manheim was also shown in costume as Flynn Rider, while Kathryn Hahn appeared as Mother Gothel, the main villain of the story.
Hahn attended the D23 presentation to introduce the film and speak about playing the well known Disney character. The actress shared her thoughts on Mother Gothel and explained how she views the character.
“I love Mother Gothel, I love playing her, she’s the best kind of villain,” she told the audience, adding that the character believes she is actually the hero of the story.

Croft and Manheim could not attend the D23 event in person because they are currently filming the movie in Spain. However, the two actors appeared through a video message recorded from the set and spoke about their experience working on the live action adaptation.
The movie is being directed by Michael Gracey, who is known for The Greatest Showman. The screenplay has been written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
Disney’s original animated Tangled was released in 2010 and featured Mandy Moore as the voice of Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as the voice of Flynn Rider. The animated film became a popular addition to Disney’s collection of fairy tale stories and introduced audiences to the story of Rapunzel in a new way.
The live action version will follow the same basic characters while bringing the story into a real world setting. Disney has not revealed all the details about the plot yet, but the first footage has given fans an early idea of how the characters will look in the new adaptation.
The live action Tangled is currently scheduled to arrive in theatres on March 31, 2028. More details about the movie, including additional footage and information about the cast, are expected to be announced as production continues.
