Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its successful run at the Indian box office by collecting an estimated Rs. 2.50 crore gross on its third Thursday. The epic drama recorded a 10 per cent drop from the previous day and completed its third week with Rs. 29 crore gross. This represents a 47 per cent decline compared to its second week, which is a normal trend as films gradually slow down after a strong opening.
Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson, The Odyssey has now collected Rs. 188.75 crore gross in India after 21 days. The film is expected to cross the Rs. 200 crore milestone during its fourth weekend. Based on its current performance, trade estimates suggest that the movie could complete its theatrical run with a lifetime India gross of around Rs. 215 crore.
One of the biggest reasons behind the film’s impressive performance is the popularity of director Christopher Nolan. Over the years, Nolan has built a loyal fan following in India, with many moviegoers eager to watch his films on the big screen. His reputation as one of the world’s leading filmmakers has helped create strong demand for every new release. His recent films, along with the successful re release of Interstellar, have further strengthened his position at the Indian box office.
Unlike superhero films or action franchises, epic historical adventures have not traditionally been among the strongest performing genres in India. Even so, The Odyssey has managed to attract large audiences because of Nolan’s name and the film’s star cast. The success of the movie once again highlights the director’s ability to bring audiences to theatres regardless of the genre.
