This week's new releases are Tips Films' PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO and the Irrfan-Nawazuddin starrer, LUNCH BOX. It is obvious that the front runner is going to be the Shahid-Illeana starrer, PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO. Having said that, due to a huge prestige factor associated with it, LUNCH BOX too will fare quite well at good multiplexes.
The clear winner of last week (against all odds) was Indra Kumar's next in the MASTI series, GRAND MASTI. Defying bad press and reviews, the Vivek, Ritesh and Aftab starrer, GRAND MASTI, saw a phenomenal opening weekend (given the cost and cast) netting 40 crore. The only films that have done more during their first weekend in 2013 are, CHENNAI EXPRESS, YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI and RACE 2. With rock steady weekdays, GRAND MASTI looks set for a 65 crore plus week, which means at least a super hit, if not more in the long run! In the overseas too, GRAND MASTI is quite decent, grossing ?80,000 from UK and $223,000 from the US during the opening weekend (13-15 September).
The other two releases of last Friday, the Naseeruddin Shah and Randeep Hooda starrer JOHN DAY and Vikram Bhatt's HORROR STORY, have failed to enthuse the audience and have more or less been rejected.

The film has also done decently (good in US) in the overseas grossing ? 102,500 from UK and $561,000 from the US till the second weekend (13-15 September).

With another 8 crore, SATYAGRAHA, has netted 59 crore in two weeks from India and has failed commercially. SATYAGRAHA has done fairly well in the overseas (good in US) grossing ? 229,200 from UK and $724,000 from the US till the third weekend (13-15 September).
Meanwhile Shoojit Sircar's John Abraham starrer, MADRAS CAFE, managed to add some more to its kitty (mainly from good multiplexes) as it collected 30 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 11 lakhs from Pune, 18.25 lakhs from Delhi city, 4 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Indore, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad and 15 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1.50 crore, MADRAS CAFE has netted 44.50 crore in three weeks from India and is an average plus fare. MADRAS CAFE has also done well in the overseas (despite not releasing in UK) grossing $500,000 from the US till the fourth weekend (13-15 September).
Concluding with Rohit Shetty's Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, CHENNAI EXPRESS, the film is at the end of its phenomenal run and collected 15 lakhs from Bombay, 1.55 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Pune, 5 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.50 lakhs from Noida, 1.25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 15 lakhs from Bangalore, 1 lakh from Mangalore, 1.15 lakhs from Vijayawada and 1.65 lakhs from Kochi. Adding another 1.25 crore, CHENNAI EXPRESS has netted 216.25 crore in five weeks from India and is an all time blockbuster. The film is also an overseas blockbuster grossing ?2,164,000 from UK and $5,266,300 from the US till the sixth weekend (13-15 September).
