With Neeraj Pandey’s much-awaited heist drama for Netflix, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, coming out on November 29, the wait is high. With Jimmy Shergill, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Avinash Tiwary in pivotal roles, the film looks like all that is promised by the lies of its deceitful trailer; indeed, a chase till the very end might go on. With ace filmmaker Neeraj Pandey behind the camera, who has churned out several very successful films like Special 26 and A Wednesday, excitement may get too much.
The movie has Tamannaah Bhatia as Kamini Singh, Jimmy Shergill as Jaswinder Singh, Avinash Tiwary as Sikandar Sharma, and Rajiv Mehta as Mangesh Desai. The trailer begins with a spine-chilling call in the form of an alert warning of an impending robbery to an organizer for a jewelry exhibition. Gunshots go on escalating, and all the various jewelry pieces present within go missing. Enter Jimmy Shergill in his cop avatar, Jaswinder Singh, whose sharp instincts quickly zero in on three suspects: Kamini, Sikandar, and Mangesh.
As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Kamini and Sikandar are also a married couple. But as Jaswinder gets closer, the two go fleeing from him to Agra but still boast about their innocence. Sikandar vigorously declares, “We are not thieves.” Tired of Jaswinder’s relentless pursuit, the couple moves to Dubai, hoping to start life all over again. But after all those years, fate brings Sikandar and Jaswinder face-to-face with each other once again.
In a steaming-hot exchange, Sikandar, almost about to burst out, tells Jaswinder, “Aapne mujhe jeene nahi diya, Jaswinder sahab”. Jaswinder, with a cold glint, retorts, “Maine tumhe marne bhi nahi diya, Sikandar”. As the trailer builds towards crescendo, Jaswinder ominously declares, “Tumhari biopic ka title hai Sikandar Ka Muqaddar aur uska director hu mai”.
While Jimmy Shergill has been a fearless cop long enough; in Phir Aayi Haseen Dilrubaa he proved his prowess, given the immense appreciation he received opposite Taapsee Pannu. On the other hand, Tamannaah remains an actor with diverse roles and will soon be seen in a cameo in the blockbuster Stree 2, followed by supernatural thriller Odela 2. Last seen in the directorial debut of Kunal Kemmu Madgaon Express, was Avinash Tiwary.
Neeraj Pandey’s last outing, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, in which he cast Tabu and Ajay Devgn, did little to win the box office. Expectations from Sikandar Ka Muqaddam will be much higher-heist drama with a high-octane delivery and extraordinary cast promises that will hopefully bring the director back on his grip.
