Netflix has dropped the trailer for its much-anticipated series The Royals, starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter in lead roles. Set against the crumbling grandeur of India’s aristocracy, the show promises an engaging blend of drama, humor, romance, and legacy.
Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, and written by Neha Veena Sharma, The Royals is a modern-day satire on royal pride, misplaced grandeur, and the struggle to stay relevant in a changed world. The show premieres on May 9 on Netflix.
A Tale of Legacy, Clashing Ideals, and Romance
Ishaan Khatter stars as the polo-playing heir of the Morpur royal family, who is suddenly thrust into the spotlight after the death of his father. With a crumbling estate and financial trouble looming large, his character must navigate the weight of heritage with the realities of the modern world.
Bhumi Pednekar plays an ambitious entrepreneur who arrives with a proposal to transform the royal palace into a boutique heritage stay. While she brings bold ideas, her presence sparks tension and friction, especially with Ishaan’s traditionalist outlook. What starts as disdain gradually evolves into a slow-burning romance laced with sharp wit and chemistry.
