Virat Kohli was recently seen video calling his wife, Anushka Sharma, to show her the turbulent weather in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Kohli, currently stranded with the Indian cricket team in Barbados after their victory in the ICC T20 World Cup, used the call to give his wife a firsthand look at the powerful hurricane.
The Indian team has been stranded in Bridgetown, Barbados since their World Cup triumph on June 29, waiting for clearance to depart the Caribbean island. The Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament at Kensington Oval, breaking their 11-year-old title jinx in ICC tournaments.
Kohli expressed his gratitude and joy by penning a heartfelt note to his wife Anushka Sharma following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory. Kohli was instrumental in India’s triumph, playing a crucial knock of 76 off 59 balls after the team was struggling at 34/3 in the powerplay. His performance helped guide India to a total of 176/7, which was enough to secure a seven-run win as South Africa managed only 169/8 in their 20 overs.
According to India Today, the team is set to fly directly to New Delhi, where they are expected to meet with the Prime Minister. However, flight cancellations caused by Hurricane Beryl, which hit the region on Monday with high intensity, have left the squad, support staff, and their families stranded on the island for the past two days. The entire island was shut down as a precautionary measure, forcing the players to remain confined to their hotel.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) managers have been attempting to arrange a private jet or charter flight to transport the players home but have faced obstacles due to the closure of the airport. The latest reports indicate that the Indian team is now set to leave Barbados on Tuesday at 6 pm local time, which will be approximately 3:30 am on Wednesday in Indian Standard Time (IST). The team is expected to land in Delhi by 7:45 pm on July 3, Wednesday.
