Why Not?!
We have been surviving on a staple diet of Hindi potboilers week after week. Most of them I end up not liking, frankly. I thought of watching a random non-hindi film. So I started scanning itunes to catch one. And came across this poster of THE INTERN, which was a reason enough to see what an intern could do to a business (I was guessing a role reversal of Anne Hathaway being the intern). But the very first scene was captivating. I thought; how could someone think of such a concept.
Such a simple narrative, still having layers in both the central characters. Still having drama and something to learn and take back home (I mean having memories). Why don’t we have such concepts? But at the hindsight I was immediately reminded of Shoojit Sircar’s PIKU. Coming back to what I was watching I started seeing Amitabh Bachchan in Robert De Niro and Deepika Padukone in Anne Hathaway. As a compulsive viewer of Hindi movies (assuming that the next would be a better one) I could imagine some basic similarities in both the movies in terms of simplicity of narrative, some drama with emotion and a simple ending.
Any which ways, we (bollywood) have been bitten by the inspiration or more profusely the remake bug. Can I request Mr. Sircar to consider do the honours. A director who can think a VICKY DONOR can definitely do justice to such a concept and ‘oblige’ us with good cinema. As I leave with bated breath, take this liberty of sharing a few dialogues from THE INTERN.
Check these…
Ben: ‘You’re never wrong to do the right thing.’
Jules: Who said that, you?
Ben: Yeah. But I’m pretty sure Mark Twain said it first.
and this…
Ben: I just know there’s a hole in my life and I need to fill it… soon.
and finally…
Jules: It’s 2015, are we really still critical of working moms?
knock knock… Mr. Sircar
