Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who is stepping into the director’s role with Tanvi: The Great, has officially introduced Shubhangi Dutt as the film’s lead. After teasing fans with glimpses and keeping her identity under wraps, Kher took to Instagram today (April 28) to share a heartfelt video showcasing Shubhangi as Tanvi—a young girl embracing life with wonder and joy.
In the post, Kher revealed that the search for his leading lady took nearly three years. The idea for the film had struck him four years ago during a conversation, and he was determined to find his ‘Tanvi’ from his acting school. However, it wasn’t an easy task.

Discovering the ‘Magical’ Shubhangi
Kher described the qualities he sought in Tanvi: innocence, goodness, charm, humor, and purity—rare traits in today’s world. After six months of intensive search, he finally spotted Shubhangi during a masterclass. As he asked students to sit silently with their eyes closed, he noticed her serene, radiant expression. Shubhangi later shared that she had been in her “dreamworld,” a place where she felt safe and free.
Impressed by her authenticity and emotional depth, Kher encouraged Shubhangi to carry the spirit of Tanvi real, grounded, and honest—into her performance. In the video, he praised her “magical presence” and predicted that soon the world would know her as #ShubhangiTheGreat.
