Veteran filmmaker David Dhawan is preparing for the release of his upcoming comedy film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which stars his son Varun Dhawan in the lead role. The film is now scheduled to release in theatres on June 12. Ahead of its release, the director has indicated that this project could be his last film due to health concerns.
In an interview with ANI, David Dhawan spoke about his plans and said, “I don’t think I should do more. Vo toh chahta hi nahi main kaam bhi karu, health-wise dekh kar. This might be my last film… after this, I’ll just be Varun’s father.” He also reflected on his long career in the film industry, sharing, “I’ve had a good journey. I cannot ask for more.”
The director also spoke about a difficult time during the shooting of the film. He said, “I was very unwell during the shooting of this film… especially on the fourth day, I had to go to the hospital. Varun took great care of me; he had all the doctors’ numbers, stayed in touch with them, and was always there. He’s a complete family man.”
Talking about working with his son, he added, “A director always wants a good actor, that’s the first priority. Meri uski tuning ho gayi… ye bhi nahi ghar ka bacha hai karega hi… vo bhi question karega hi, haq hai uska… 13–14 filmein kar chuka hai. We get along really well, aur maine kaha jab tak bana raha hu, toh bete ke saath ek-do picture chalti rahe, acha hai.”
The film also features Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. It was earlier planned to release on June 5 but has now been postponed to June 12. This change happened after Yash starrer Toxic shifted its release date from March 19 to June 4.
In an official statement, Ramesh Taurani from Tips Films said, “We would like to clarify that our film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, was originally scheduled for release on June 5, a date we had announced several months ago. However, after recent developments and considering the prevailing situation, we felt it would be more appropriate to shift our release.”
The film will now release alongside Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina.
