Halsey to Star in and Co-Write New Psycho-S*xual Horror Film ‘Replacer’

Halsey is set to star in and co-write the new psycho-sexual horror film Replacer, with Avan Jogia directing and Lilly Wachowski executive producing

Halsey is officially stepping deeper into the horror world. The Grammy-nominated singer will star in and co-write a new psycho-s*xual horror movie titled Replacer, with actor and filmmaker Avan Jogia attached to direct the project. The film is currently launching sales at the Cannes market, while Lilly Wachowski has signed on as an executive producer. According to the official synopsis, Replacer follows Proxy, a troubled DJ played by Halsey, who becomes stranded in Montreal and encounters an underground group running a mysterious pirate radio station.

Things quickly spiral into chaos after a strange signal hidden beneath the city’s subway system begins affecting everyone exposed to it.

“Proxy must escape before the sound turns her, and her new friends, into something raw, primal, and unrecognizable,” the synopsis reads.

The project is being described as a “psycho-sexual horror” film blending thriller, horror, comedy, and underground subculture aesthetics.

Jogia, who co-wrote the script alongside Halsey, described the movie as “a bright and electric club horror mashed together with a vulnerable romantic story about belonging and community.”

“Come together. Leave as one,” he added.

The film marks another major acting move for Halsey, who has increasingly expanded her presence in Hollywood in recent years. The singer previously appeared in the horror film MaXXXine and has continued building a résumé that stretches beyond music.

Meanwhile, Lilly Wachowski praised both the screenplay and Jogia’s vision for the project.

“Avan and Halsey’s script is a surreal hyper-dive into a twitchy, conspiratorial genre-mashing snarl of horror, thriller, and comedy,” Wachowski said.

She also compared the project’s tone and influences to legendary filmmakers including David Cronenberg, John Carpenter, Tony Scott, and Alex Cox.

The story’s gritty Montreal setting and underground radio station backdrop are expected to play a huge role in the film’s atmosphere, giving Replacer a darker and more experimental horror aesthetic.

Jogia, known for acting roles in projects like Zombieland: Double Tap, has also been steadily building his directing career, making Replacer one of his most high-profile filmmaking projects to date.

The movie is being produced by Independent Edge, Soft Focus Films, and Getaway Entertainment, with international sales handled by Film Mode Entertainment.

As horror continues dominating both mainstream and indie cinema, Replacer is already generating buzz thanks to its unusual premise, genre-blending style, and the creative collaboration between Halsey, Jogia, and Wachowski.
