The country is in mourning regarding former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who at 92 became an end of an era great person. AIIMS-Delhi confirmed he was being treated in the hospital for his illnesses relating to old age. Earlier in the day, he had lost consciousness at his residence and was brought to AIIMS at 8:06 PM. Although revived, he did not respond and, at 9:51 PM, was pronounced dead.
In a heartfelt tribute on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences for the huge contributions rendered by Dr. Singh for this country. “The departure of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji leaves a void in our nation. From an ordinary background, he became a great economist and, thus, had a tremendous influence on our economic policy. During his period as Prime Minister, he has given everything to change the lives of the people,” said Prime Minister Modi.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said: “He was the architect of the economic reforms during the PV Narasimha Rao government. He has borne the weight of the great and vital responsibilities in managing an Awakened India, from being the governor of the Reserve Bank to the finance minister, then finally as the prime minister. My thoughts are with family and supporters,” added Shah.
Dr. Manmohan Singh was the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. He is known to be an economist and scholar for his calm and undistracted personality. He played one of the most significant roles in liberalizing the economy during the 1990s. His unfathomable contribution to the development of India stands unmatched.
