Lessons of life from KAI PO CHE!

The other night was watching KAI PO CHE! in a multiplex and as the film came to an end most of the audience stood up and clapped acknowledging perhaps the efforts that have gone into making it a movie to be talked about for long times to come, and the conviction that Abhishek Kapoor had in his product, the production inputs that UTV has provided, and the tight script based on the novel of Chetan Bhagat, indeed has led to the creation of a heady concoction. KAI PO CHE! indeed is a treasure trove of lessons for life and here they are:

Find a good teacher and life would be made

When a grown up Ali walks up to make his debut for India in the closing shot, and the number ten displaying on his T-shirt is a visual tribute to his Guru who laid down his life to protect his prote'ge' and one should keep on persevering if one has found a mentor, as he would leave no stone unturned to pave the way of success for the disciple.

Children should be encouraged to start playing the old galli games like Marble, which have been pushed back burner by the advent of audio -visual
media

It was after a long time that the common galli game of marbles was given a prominence that it deserves. Unless children indulge in these desi games, they would not experience the ruff and tumbles of life out in the grueling sun, and the way it fosters the zeal to win, cannot be replaced by the games advent over the audio-visual platform.

Dietary habits of children have to be changed if they are to grow as healthy adults

In a subtle and oblique manner, through the shot where Ali falls down playing, the film has tried to point out the importance of vital nutrients in facilitating a child grow up, and it is a pointer to the fact that parents need to bestow proper attention to children when they are growing up or they may not grow into healthy individuals.

Importance of sports in developing the character of the nation

The mindset of the teachers teaching especially in the government and aided schools need to change that only by studying one can grow into a responsible individual. It is sports as a genre that needs to be encouraged as it fosters healthy competition and induces element of respect for the competition and overall the fact that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Creation of sports academy as a new vertical across government and aided schools

Trust a film situated in Gujarat to come up with an innovative idea worth emulating all over the country. Sports management in the schools needs to be outsourced to professional institutes and once it is done, even in a phased manner, the crisis of talent that the country is grappling with, could start changing. After all, this has been the model followed the world over by sports dominating countries, and it is high time India also starts doing that, we as a nation now are getting corporate sponsorships for sports.

Majority community has to come forward to provide hand holding to the minority community to instill confidence in them and to help integrate

Through the character of Sushant Singh Rajput it has been clearly underlined that until and unless the majority community takes the lead and comes forward to provide hand holding to the minority community they would continue to live in a state of despair in their ghettos.

One should not forget the mother tongue

Some critics have pointed out that there is lots of Gujarati words interjected in the film, but the moot point is it is a pointer to the fact that one does not use the official languages in the moments of crisis, joy or otherwise, but it is the mother tongue which one resorts to, as it has the affinity to the roots and also underlines that one should not forget one's mother tongue.

Use contraceptives to avoid tense moments after the moments of intimacy.

As Navratri draws near scores of articles in newspapers and magazines start popping up informing that this is the time when incidences of physical relationships happening at the spur of the moment shoot up. KAI PO CHE! has also used the metaphor and subtly pointed out to the fact that the spur of moments happen, but if one could be cautious then associated headaches can be avoided and even the beans of the affair may not be split subsequently as it happened in the film.
