None of the new releases of the week (Hindi), Rishi Kapoor’s JHOOTA KAHIN KA, Siddhant Madhav directed PENALTY and Jimmy Sheirgill starrer FAMILY OF THAKURGANJ, could make much of an impact at the box-office. As expected and predicted, it was Hollywood’s animated THE LION KING (dubbed) which dominated box-office proceedings with an impressive 35 percent start on an average, thanks to family patronage. The first day appears to be around the 11 crore mark and as thing stands, THE LION KING is all set to emerge a success.
Meanwhile, last week’s major release, Nadiadwala Grandsons & Reliance Entertainment’s Vikas Bahl directed Hrithik Roshan starrer SUPER 30, ended the opening week netting a good 75 crore plus (given the genre). The film has also seen a stable second Friday. Keeping in mind the handsome recoveries from the non-theatrical rights (75-80 crore), the film is on way to a emerge a creditable semi-hit, if not hit! SUPER 30 has also done well in the overseas grossing nearly 3.30m dollars, during the first week.
Concluding with Anubhav Sinha’s Ayushmann Khurana starrer, ARTICLE 15, the film added another 8 crore thus netting 61 crore (to be validated) in three weeks from India and is a clean hit. ARTICLE 15 has also grossed over $2m in the overseas.
