‘Metro…In Dino’ holds strong amid global tentpoles

Amidst a crowded release calendar dominated by global heavyweights like ‘Superman’ and ‘F1’, Anurag Basu’s ‘Metro…In Dino’ has quietly carved out a significant box office run, emerging as one of the most unexpected success stories of 2025. The film, backed by T-Series, has clocked ₹32.01 crore (India Nett) over 8 days, propelled by strong word-of-mouth and urban audience connect.

Despite a subdued start, the film has maintained impressive weekday traction, setting it up for a solid second weekend. Notably, its performance has been driven not by scale or star power, but by sincerity in storytelling and emotional resonance.

A senior trade analyst noted, “Metro…In Dino’ has managed to hold its ground remarkably well, especially given the tough box office environment and stiff competition from bigger titles. Despite the odds, the film has shown consistency through the weekdays and is headed for a promising second weekend. The footfalls are steady, and that says a lot. What’s working is the relatability — Anurag Basu’s storytelling has struck a chord. It’s one of those rare films where audiences see their own stories unfold on screen.”

The film has found strong support from exhibition as well. Kamal Gianchandani, Chief of Business Planning & Strategy, PVR INOX Ltd, stated, “Metro…In Dino’ has shown remarkable consistency at the box office. In a competitive landscape, it’s encouraging to see audiences returning to cinemas for a film that’s driven purely by strong storytelling and emotional depth. The growing happy footfalls at the theatres has increased the business at the box office and underlines the demand for such well-crafted content. ‘Metro…In Dino’ is touted to be one of the successful movies of the year 2025. Bhushan Kumar and Anurag Basu have brought together a film that speaks to the urban audience in a relatable, heartfelt way.”

According to a source close to the production, “Budgeted at ₹40 crore, with ₹7 crore allocated to P&A, ‘Metro…In Dino’ was never about extravagance — and that’s exactly its strength. It’s grounded, honest, and connects with audiences where it matters most.”

Helmed by Anurag Basu and produced by Bhushan Kumar under the T-Series banner, the film is a multi-narrative exploration of contemporary relationships, rooted in realism and emotional authenticity. Its portrayal of modern urban lives — especially the nuanced representation of women — has resonated strongly with metropolitan viewers.

Urban centres continue to drive the film’s performance, and trends indicate a strong second weekend ahead. The robust Saturday pickup has already positioned ‘Metro…In Dino’ as a certified theatrical success — a rare feat in the post-pandemic box office, especially for mid-budget relationship dramas.
