Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha’s wedding was a blend of tradition and modernity, with the couple infusing their own personal touch into the ceremony. One of the most notable moments was when Patralekha applied sindoor to Rajkummar, a gesture traditionally reserved for the bride.
Rajkummar explained that this decision was born out of a desire for equality in their partnership. Reflecting on the moment during an interview, he shared that he felt it was important for both partners to be equally involved in the rituals. He questioned why only Patralekha had to wear the sindoor, mangalsutra, and chooda, while he was only wearing a ring. In an impulsive yet heartfelt moment, he asked her to apply sindoor to him as well, symbolizing their equal partnership.
Rajkummar added that Patralekha was touched by the gesture, though neither of them initially saw it as unconventional. He mentioned that it was a natural expression of his personality and something he had always felt was meaningful. He was pleased that the moment resonated with so many people. Additionally, the couple was keen on understanding the deeper significance of the rituals during their pheras (marriage vows). They even asked their pandit to explain the meaning of the mantras, and when it came to some vows, they wanted to make sure they aligned with their values. For instance, Rajkummar humorously mentioned that they rejected a vow that asked Patralekha to never get angry with him, as they felt it wasn’t realistic.
Rajkummar and Patralekha, who had been dating for several years, tied the knot in 2021. The couple had previously worked together in the 2014 film CityLights. On the professional front, Rajkummar’s recent work includes Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and the highly successful Stree 2, which became the highest-grossing film of 2024.
