Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal is gearing up for his role in the historical drama Chhava, a biographical film about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of the legendary Maratha Emperor Shivaji Maharaj. The film was initially set to release on December 6, 2024, but the makers have decided to push back the release to February 14, 2025.
This change in date will allow Chhava to avoid a clash with the highly anticipated Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is slated to release on December 5, 2024. The massive buzz surrounding Pushpa 2 and its expected box-office success likely played a role in the decision to shift Chhava to a new release window.
The new date holds special significance as it coincides with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19, 2025. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhava features Vicky Kaushal as Sambhaji Maharaj, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, and Rashmika Mandanna in a key role. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan and tells the story of the Maratha Emperor’s life and legacy.
This delay also benefits Rashmika Mandanna, who stars in both Chhava and Pushpa 2, preventing a direct clash between her two big films at the box office.
Vicky Kaushal is undeniably on a career high, collaborating with some of the biggest names in Bollywood. After the Laxman Utekar directed historical drama Chhava, set for release in early 2025, the actor is working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Moreover, Vicky is reportedly set to star in Amar Kaushik’s next film, Mahavatar, following the success of Stree 2.
In addition to these projects, Vicky Kaushal has signed on with Rajkumar Hirani for a significant role in his next directorial. According to sources, Vicky has been in discussions with the acclaimed filmmaker for the past few months and has now officially joined the project, which is currently in the scripting phase. The film will begin production in 2026, after Vicky wraps up Mahavatar.
Rajkumar Hirani, currently working on his digital debut with Vikrant Massey, will focus on the script of his next big-screen venture before commencing shooting. The film is said to be a “special project,” and Hirani will spend considerable time fine-tuning the script before taking it to the set.
This lineup of high-profile collaborations places Vicky Kaushal in a powerful position in the industry, with major projects lined up with top directors. After working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Amar Kaushik, and Rajkumar Hirani, Vicky is also in talks with two other prominent producers for additional projects. The future looks incredibly bright for the actor, who was last seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur, which performed well at the box office, earning over Rs 90 crore in India.
