Priyadarshan Shares Story Behind Saif Ali Khan Joining Haiwaan

Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan reunite for Haiwaan as Priyadarshan shares insights on casting, release plans, and Mohanlal’s cameo.

Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are coming together once again for the film Haiwaan. The shooting of the film has already been completed, and the makers are now planning its release. According to recent updates, the film is expected to arrive in theatres around August.

Director Priyadarshan recently spoke to Mid day about how Saif Ali Khan joined the project. He shared that the producers informed him about Saif’s availability, and when they approached the actor, he showed immediate interest. He said, “The producers told me Saif was available. When we went to him, he was excited, so that’s how [he came aboard].”

Priyadarshan also spoke about Saif’s working style in a lighthearted way. He mentioned that the actor often comes to the set with several questions. He said, “Every morning, he comes with 10 questions. Once that one doubt is cleared, he forgets the other nine, and says, ‘Okay, I’m ready.’ He’s like a very cute [but] mature child.” This gives an idea of how involved Saif is in his work.

When asked about the film’s release, Priyadarshan said, “It will release around 90 days of this film (Bhooth Bangla).” Adding to this, Akshay Kumar mentioned that the film could release “somewhere in August…”

Haiwaan is produced by KVN Production and Thespian Films. The film is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam movie Oppam, which was released in 2016 and starred Mohanlal in the lead role.

In the original film, Mohanlal played a visually impaired man who witnesses a crime and tries to protect a child from danger. In Haiwaan, Saif Ali Khan will take on a similar role. Adding to the interest, Mohanlal will also appear in a special cameo in the Hindi version.

Priyadarshan had earlier shared a photo from the sets with Saif and Mohanlal. Along with it, he wrote, “Look at life and the way it turns… Here I am, on the shooting sets of HAIWAN, working with the son of one of my biggest cricket heroes and my favourite film icon. Truly, God is kind.” He was referring to Saif’s father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and his admiration for Mohanlal.

Talking about Mohanlal’s role, Priyadarshan said, “If you’re asking me about Haiwaan, Mohanlal is in that film. However, what character he plays, I don’t want to say right now. See, every time I make a movie, it is the story that excites me. I never think about actors.”

Overall, Haiwaan brings together a strong cast and an interesting story, making it one of the upcoming films to watch out for.
