Rajkummar Rao recently discussed the portrayal of negative characters in films on Raj Shamani’s podcast, where he addressed how some viewers might misinterpret these characters.
When asked about people relating to Shah Rukh Khan’s character in Devdas (2002), Rajkummar emphasized that the film is not intended to glorify Devdas’s choices. He pointed out that the director’s intent is to tell a cautionary story based on a novel, showing the tragic consequences of Devdas’s actions, rather than encouraging viewers to emulate him.
Rajkummar also shared his thoughts on Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in Animal (2023), an action drama directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
He expressed that while he had some minor issues with certain scenes, he thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience of watching the film. He praised Ranbir’s performance as “mind-blowing” and highlighted that the title Animal reflects the character’s primal and flawed nature, as opposed to being an ideal figure.
Animal has sparked debate due to its portrayal of toxic masculinity and misogyny but has nonetheless achieved significant box office success, grossing ₹917 crore worldwide.
Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao was recently seen in Stree 2, the sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, which released on August 15, 2024, and has been well received.
