Shah Rukh Khan recently shared an emotional and reflective insight into his life and career during a chat at the Global Freight Summit in Dubai. The superstar, who has spent over three decades in the entertainment industry, opened up about his early years as an actor and what fueled his determination to succeed. He recalled a profound moment when he thought about his late parents, who passed away when he was young, and how their absence motivated him. He said, “I felt one morning that maybe my parents are there somewhere… and I will meet up with them again for sure. They are stars in the sky and I will meet them once. But aren’t they worried right now? That, ‘Oh my God, what must be happening to my 24-year-old kid who has no sustenance?’”
This thought, according to Khan, became a driving force in his life. He became determined to succeed, not only for himself but also to ensure that his parents, wherever they were, would not feel guilty about his struggles. He expressed, “I started working very hard, I became very determined to be successful because I didn’t want my parents to feel bad that they have not fended for me. It is a very strange way to look at things… I will become successful and turn around and say ‘I am doing good! Don’t feel guilty you died early.’”
Shah Rukh went on to say that this sense of responsibility has now extended to his own children. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring their happiness and well-being: “Now I am determined for my children… in a good way. That their lives should be healthy, they should be happy. All three of them are very beautiful, very loving and hard working.”
During the conversation, Shah Rukh also spoke about the profound loss he experienced as a young man, revealing that both of his parents passed away within a span of 10 years—his father when he was 14 and his mother when he was 24. “I had nowhere to go. I had a sister with me. Just the two of us left in this world,” he shared, underscoring the emotional impact these early losses had on shaping his outlook on life.
On the professional front, Shah Rukh was last seen in Dunki (2023), directed by Rajkummar Hirani, which also featured Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. He will next be seen in King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, which will feature his daughter, Suhana Khan.
