Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha has emerged as the latest film at the centre of release date speculation, with strong trade chatter indicating that Maddock Films is reworking its theatrical plans. While the makers continue to officially hold on to the August 28, 2026 release date, conversations across the distribution and exhibition circuit suggest the film could either arrive earlier or move to a completely new date.
The reported rethink appears to have little to do with the film’s readiness and everything to do with box office strategy. Eetha is believed to be complete, and its teaser, which was attached to Cocktail 2, has received an encouraging response. The concern for the studio is the proximity of Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups, which is scheduled to release on August 26. Two event films opening within 48 hours of each other would inevitably trigger a battle for premium screens and show timings across multiplex chains, particularly in Maharashtra, where Eetha is expected to enjoy strong audience interest because of its story inspired by legendary Tamasha icon Vithabai Narayangaonkar.
Trade circles believe the makers have little to gain from entering a direct clash when alternative windows could allow the film to play with greater freedom. One possibility being discussed is a preponement by a week if exhibitors and distributors can accommodate the shift. Such a move would give Eetha a relatively clean theatrical run before Toxic arrives, allowing it to build momentum through positive word of mouth.
However, a postponement currently appears to be the more practical option. Moving into early or mid September could allow the film to avoid an immediate clash, although the makers would have to carefully study the release calendar and ensure they do not step into another crowded corridor. The fact that Vvan has already shifted to September 25 gives Maddock Films greater flexibility than it had a few weeks ago, but every available weekend will have to be weighed against competing Hindi and pan Indian releases.
Another possibility that cannot be ruled out is a move beyond September if the studio believes the film deserves an uncontested release period. Maddock Films has increasingly demonstrated that it prefers long theatrical runs over unnecessary opening weekend battles, a strategy that has worked well for several of its recent releases.
As things stand, there is no official confirmation that Eetha has been moved. August 28, 2026 remains the only announced release date, and the studio has not commented on the ongoing speculation. Nevertheless, the intensity of trade discussions suggests that an announcement could arrive sooner rather than later.
If the release date is indeed revised, it would reflect a growing trend in the Hindi film industry where producers are becoming increasingly selective about release windows. Instead of treating every holiday or weekend as a race to the box office, studios are focusing on finding the right runway that allows a film to maximise occupancy, retain premium screens and sustain collections beyond the opening weekend. For a content driven film like Eetha, that strategy could prove far more valuable than winning a clash.
