Priyanka Chopra's much talked about cabaret song 'Assalam-e-Ishqum' from her upcoming film, GUNDAY, releases today. Think of cabaret and one is immediately reminded about the 70s era where this form of music ruled the films. Thus we took the opportunity to speak to GUNDAY's music director Sohail Sen to talk about the film's much awaited song.
How challenging was it to design a cabaret number? ''Actually working for the cabaret number 'Assalam-e-Ishqum' was tough but great fun too. This was because Ali (Abbas Zafar) wanted the song to have 70s feel and yet be contemporary,'' reveals Sohail.
He further explains, ''In Kolkata (then Calcutta) cabaret's used to happen in 70s. And though our film is being made right now it has the essence of that period and thus from day one we were clear that sound should appeal today's generation but also reflect that era. So we got Bappi Da on-board and incorporated certain nuances from him in the song.''
'Assalam-e-Ishqum' is sung by Bappi Lahiri and Neha Bhasin and features the sensuous Priyanka Chopra.
GUNDAY, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, also stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Irrfan Khan and hits the screens on February 14, 2014.
