Swara Bhasker, who welcomed her daughter Raabiyaa with husband Fahad Ahmad in September last year, has been actively sharing moments from her life as a mother on social media. However, the actress recently took to Instagram to address a body-shaming comment made by a leading Hindi newspaper.
The newspaper mentioned Swara’s weight gain as the reason for her not getting projects post-childbirth, stating, “Badhte wajan ke karan Swara ko nahi mil raha kaam” (Swara is not getting work due to increasing weight). In response, Swara shared a screenshot of the tweet on her Instagram story and expressed her disdain for such comments.
She wrote, “For those who cannot read the Devanagari script, this is a leading Hindi newspaper handle that thinks it is newsworthy that a recent mom, who birthed a child a few months ago, put on weight! Can someone please explain the physiology of childbirth to the geniuses… .”
Swara, known for her roles in films like ‘Veere Di Wedding,’ ‘Nil Battey Sannata,’ and ‘Raanjhanaa,’ has been on a hiatus from acting since her marriage in January last year and the birth of her child in September. Her latest project, ‘Sheer Qorma,’ was released in August 2023.
Swara’s response sheds light on the insensitivity of body shaming, especially towards new mothers, and highlights the need for a more understanding and empathetic approach towards postpartum changes.
