Timothée Chalamet has revealed one of the most unexpected details from the making of Marty Supreme. He shared that he wore contact lenses that intentionally blurred his eyesight so he could wear real prescription glasses on top of them. The director wanted his character to have smaller, beady eyes and a slightly distorted visual presence, and Chalamet took it literally. By the end of production, he admitted that his vision was actually affected until very recently.
Behind the scenes photos had already shown Chalamet with a mustache, tiny glasses and a completely altered appearance. What no one knew was that the look required physical discomfort and compromised vision during filming. His co star Gwyneth Paltrow even revealed that she once offered him skincare advice on set, thinking his character’s tired and strained look was real until he clarified it was makeup and the vision altering contacts.
The level of commitment surprised fans, especially since Marty Supreme has been generating attention for its stylised realism and intense character work. Chalamet’s choice to damage his own clarity of sight for the role adds to his growing list of transformative performances.
The film is set to release on Christmas Day 2025, and this revelation has only added more curiosity about what the final result will look like and how far the actor pushed himself to deliver it.
