Trolled for Being Varun Dhawan’s Mom on Screen, Mouni Roy Finally Reacts

Mouni Roy opened up about the trolling she faced for playing Varun Dhawan's fake mother in a film and explained why she accepted the role.

Actress Mouni Roy has finally addressed the criticism she faced after playing the role of Varun Dhawan‘s fake mother in the film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The unusual casting choice became a major talking point on social media, with many people questioning why a 40 year old actress was cast as the mother of a 39 year old actor. However, Mouni says she was never bothered by the criticism and remained focused on her work.

Mouni Roy is a well known name in the entertainment industry, thanks to popular projects such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Naagin, and Brahmastra. Her latest film appearance generated plenty of discussion online because of the unique role she played. While many social media users criticised the decision, Mouni believes people reacted without fully understanding the story.

In a recent interview with News 18, the actress said she paid no attention to the negative comments. According to her, she was confident about the role and knew exactly what she was doing in the film. She explained that the director was happy with her performance and so were the people she worked with. Because of that, she felt there was no reason to worry about outside opinions.

Mouni also shared that she was excited to work with veteran filmmaker David Dhawan. She described herself as a huge fan of his films and said his comedies have always been among her favourite comfort watches. Since this was her first time doing a comedy role, she looked forward to the challenge. She also felt that keeping her character away from promotional campaigns worked in the film’s favour because it created curiosity among audiences.

Interestingly, Mouni admitted that even she was surprised when she first heard about the role. She revealed that casting director Mukesh Chhabra initially called her and explained the character. Her immediate reaction was disbelief. She laughed when she learned she would be playing Varun Dhawan’s fake mother and wondered how audiences would react. However, after hearing the full script, she understood the context and agreed to take on the role.

Apart from Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Mouni has several exciting projects lined up. She will be seen in filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming film The Wives, which explores the lives and struggles of celebrity wives. She is also part of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s highly anticipated film Vishwambhara.

Despite the online debate surrounding her latest role, Mouni Roy remains focused on her career and continues to take on new and challenging projects. Her response to the controversy shows that she prefers to let her work speak for itself rather than get distracted by criticism.
