Blackpink member Lisa is set to achieve another major career milestone as her first solo documentary, Always Lalisa, has been officially selected for the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. The festival will take place from September 10 to 20, with the documentary receiving its world premiere in the prestigious Gala Presentations section. The exact premiere date has not yet been announced.
Directed by filmmaker Sue Kim, the documentary has a runtime of 97 minutes and follows Lisa during one of the most important periods of her career. The film was included in the festival’s Gala and Special Presentations lineup alongside films such as A Talent for Murder, All About Corinne, Atonement, and Babies.
The official synopsis describes the documentary by saying, “K-pop-turned-global superstar Lisa stars in this intimate and transformative documentary tracing her journey from childhood ambition through Blackpink stardom into the artist she is today.”
The documentary follows Lisa as she prepares for several major moments in her career. It captures the making of her debut solo album Alter Ego, her preparations for her performance at Coachella, and her first acting project in The White Lotus Season 3, created by Mike White. Along with her professional life, the film also shows Lisa returning to Thailand, where she spends time with her family and close friends away from public attention.
The documentary has been filmed in English, Thai, and Korean, giving viewers a closer look at different parts of Lisa’s personal and professional journey. It will also include appearances by fellow Blackpink members Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo.
Always Lalisa was first announced by Sony Music Vision in 2025. According to reports, director Sue Kim spent 1 year following Lisa to document not only her biggest public moments but also the quieter parts of her daily life. The aim was to present a more complete picture of the global star beyond the stage.
Sue Kim is known for directing A24’s The Last of the Sea Women, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024. She also served as an executive producer on Apple TV+’s K Pop Idols, while her documentary The Speed Cubers was shortlisted for the Academy Awards.
With its selection at one of the world’s leading film festivals, Always Lalisa will offer audiences a closer look at Lisa’s journey, balancing her international music career, new acting opportunities, and personal life during a defining chapter of her career.
