Jennifer Garner’s cameo in the action-packed Deadpool 3 delighted fans with both her return to the superhero genre and her sharp, humorous dialogue. Garner reprised her role as Elektra nearly two decades after her initial portrayal in the 2003 Marvel film Daredevil, where she starred opposite her then-husband, Ben Affleck. This nostalgic return was marked by a witty exchange that humorously referenced her past relationship with Affleck amid ongoing rumors of his split from Jennifer Lopez.

In Deadpool 3, a scene where Ryan Reynolds’ character, Deadpool, pays tribute to fallen Marvel heroes took an amusing turn with Garner’s response. When Deadpool offered condolences for the death of Affleck’s Daredevil, Garner’s Elektra nonchalantly replied, “Oh, it’s fine,” delivering a line that resonated with fans for its humor and underlying context.

The film, which released in the UK on July 25 and in the US on July 26, features Elektra rescuing Deadpool, Wolverine, Gambit, X-23, and others from the villainous Cassandra Nova. Elektra then reveals the grim reality that many heroes, including her former lover Daredevil, have already fallen victim to Nova’s deadly rampage.

Garner and Affleck’s off-screen romance began on the set of Daredevil, leading to their marriage in 2009 and the birth of their three children: Violet (18), Seraphina (15), and Samuel (12). Despite their split in 2015 and finalized divorce in 2017, Garner and Affleck maintain a cordial relationship, co-parenting their children effectively. Affleck’s current marriage to Jennifer Lopez, his former flame, has not disrupted this dynamic. In fact, Garner and her children share a positive relationship with Lopez, emphasizing a harmonious blended family.

In a candid 2020 interview with the New York Times, Ben Affleck, star of The Accountant 2, reflected on his divorce from Jennifer Garner, describing it as the biggest regret of his life. He attributed the deterioration of their marriage to his struggle with addiction. “I drank relatively normally for a long time,” Affleck explained. “What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart. This was 2015, 2016. My drinking, of course, created more marital problems,” he added.

Affleck’s openness about his addiction and its impact on his marriage shed light on the complexities of their relationship and the personal battles he faced. Despite their divorce, Affleck and Garner have maintained a cooperative co-parenting relationship, prioritizing the well-being of their three children.
