Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are officially divorced, bringing an end to one of Hollywood’s most admired long-term marriages. A judge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday issued a final order dissolving the 19-year union between the Oscar-winning actor and the Grammy-winning country music star, declaring both parties legally single.
According to court documents, the judge approved the divorce after determining that the couple had reached sufficient agreements regarding the division of assets and the custody of their children. All legal matters were settled privately, allowing the divorce to move forward without dispute.
Kidman filed for divorce in September, a move that surprised much of the public. While the split appeared sudden to fans, court filings suggest the separation had been carefully planned well in advance. All required agreements related to finances, property, and child custody were signed on the same day the divorce petition was filed.
Under Tennessee law, couples with minor children must observe a mandatory 90-day waiting period before a divorce can be finalized. That period has now passed, allowing the court to officially dissolve the marriage.
Kidman and Urban, both 58, share two teenage daughters. Their divorce filing cited “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation. According to the parenting plan submitted to the court, Kidman will serve as the primary residential parent, though both parents will continue to share responsibilities. The documents indicate that the children are expected to remain living in Nashville, where they have been raised.
Notably, the agreement states that neither Kidman nor Urban will receive spousal or child support. The couple also agreed to a roughly equal division of their joint assets, reflecting what appears to be an amicable and cooperative separation.
Two of the most internationally recognized stars to emerge from Australia, Kidman and Urban first met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year. Over nearly two decades together, they became a familiar presence on red carpets and at major industry events. Urban frequently accompanied Kidman to the Academy Awards, while Kidman was a regular attendee at country music ceremonies, including the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Although both had occasionally spoken openly and respectfully about facing challenges in their marriage, there were few outward signs that a divorce was imminent.
This was the first marriage for Urban and the second for Kidman, who was previously married to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. Kidman shares two older children with Cruise.
With their divorce now finalized, Kidman and Urban close a significant chapter of their lives—one that spanned nearly two decades in the public eye.
