It sounds like 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for the DC Universe on Max! With a highly anticipated lineup, Peacemaker season 2 will finally bring back John Cena’s Christopher Smith, along with his crew of misfits. The show’s second season takes place within the reimagined DCU and follows the events of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, which will be the launchpad for this new canon.

The teaser includes both familiar faces and new ones, like Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., a significant addition, considering Peacemaker’s turbulent relationship with the late Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman in The Suicide Squad). Grillo’s character will debut in Creature Commandos (launching December 5, 2024) in animated form before crossing over into live action in Superman and Peacemaker season 2. This integration is part of Gunn’s vision for a seamless DCU, where animated and live-action characters can cross over organically.

Cena’s comments about the extended wait for Peacemaker season 2 reflect the ambitious restructuring under Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership at DC. The aim is a cohesive DCU that tells interconnected stories across films and series, explaining the cautious approach to avoid rushing the production. With all this buildup, Peacemaker season 2 seems poised to deliver more of the offbeat action, dark humor, and unlikely camaraderie that made the first season a hit, while weaving it into the larger DC Universe.

Between Peacemaker, Superman, Creature Commandos, and other upcoming titles like The Penguin, Dune: Prophecy, and Welcome to Derry, Max is doubling down on high-profile series to keep fans engaged.
