The tension between Will Smith and Chris Rock, which began with the infamous slap at the Oscars 2022, continues to fuel media discussions even years after the incident. According to reports, Will Smith has begun rebuilding his career and personal life but still holds a grudge against Rock.

A source close to Smith says he “still hates” Rock, mainly because of the perceived “smug attitude” Rock has displayed since the altercation. The source also claims that Smith is enjoying watching Rock struggle with his personal and professional issues, viewing the situation as a kind of “last laugh.”

The incident itself, which occurred at the 94th Academy Awards, was sparked by a joke Rock made about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, a reference to G.I. Jane. Will Smith, feeling the need to defend his wife, stormed onto the stage and slapped Rock, sparking wide-ranging debates about comedy, boundaries, and personal conduct. While many spoke out that he overreacted, Smith still took home the Academy Award that evening for his role in King Richard. He even faced a 10-year ban from the Oscars and resignation from the Academy, having resigned after apologizing to the Academy in his acceptance speech, though he never apologized directly to Rock.

Chris Rock has also continued to talk about the incident in his comedy, especially in his stand-up specials, keeping the feud alive in the public eye.

Jada Pinkett Smith, in a recent interview, reflected on the night of the Oscars, speaking about the complexity of the situation and reaffirming her support for her husband. She explained that although the incident was deeply personal, she would always stand by Will, stating, “I might not have walked in there as his wife, but I left that night as his wife.”

On the professional side, Will Smith’s last known film appearance was in Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), which will be the franchise’s return after a long time.
