BTS’s 60-Minute Performance in Seoul: Agency Explains Decision

BTS returns with ARIRANG after nearly four years, launching a global comeback with a palace performance and Netflix special.

Global K-pop group BTS is preparing to make a highly anticipated return with a new album titled ARIRANG, scheduled for release on March 20, 2026. The project marks the group’s first collective release in three years and nine months, setting the stage for what is expected to be one of the biggest musical events of the year.

As part of their comeback celebrations, the group will deliver a special performance at Gwanghwamun Square, located near the historic Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. The choice of venue reflects a blend of cultural symbolism and modern global appeal, aligning with BTS’ reputation for combining tradition with contemporary artistry.

Recent reports suggested that city authorities had restricted the duration of the performance to one hour, leading to speculation that the Seoul Metropolitan Government had imposed limits on the event. However, the group’s management agencies — HYBE and BIGHIT MUSIC — clarified that no such restrictions were enforced.

According to their official statement, the decision to limit the performance to 60 minutes was made internally. The agencies explained that the duration was determined after considering various practical factors associated with hosting a large-scale outdoor event.

These considerations included audience safety, crowd management, transportation logistics, and potential late-night noise concerns. The clarification has put to rest earlier speculation that local authorities had curtailed the group’s promotional plans.

In connection with the event, Gyeongbokgung Palace — a site dating back to the Joseon Dynasty — will remain closed for the day of the performance. While earlier reports indicated that members RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook might follow the symbolic “King’s path” during the showcase, this detail has not yet been officially confirmed.

The upcoming album ARIRANG is expected to feature 14 tracks. While specific song titles remain undisclosed, the project is already drawing attention for its lineup of international collaborators. Renowned producers and songwriters including Max Martin, Jon Bellion, Diplo, and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic are confirmed to have contributed to the album.

The comeback celebrations will extend beyond the live performance. On March 21, BTS will host BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE: ARIRANG, a global livestream set to air via Netflix at 8 pm KST.

Additionally, fans can look forward to a feature-length documentary titled BTS: THE RETURN, scheduled for release on March 27, 2026. The documentary will chronicle the making of the album and provide behind-the-scenes insights into the group’s creative process.

With multiple events planned around the release, BTS’ return signals not just a musical comeback but a major cultural moment that is likely to resonate with audiences worldwide.
