Madonna surprised fans in New York City on Thursday evening with an unexpected performance in Times Square. The pop icon appeared before a large crowd for a 15 minute concert that was organised to celebrate Pride Month and mark the release of her new album, Confessions II.
The 67 year old singer drew significant attention as fans gathered in the busy area to watch the special performance. Videos shared on social media showed large crowds filling Times Square as Madonna took to the stage.
For the event, Madonna wore a custom Dolce & Gabbana outfit that featured a pink chiffon teddy with lace detailing, a satin waist cincher, a blue satin balconette bra, pink tulle opera gloves layered with lace fingerless gloves and sheer tulle thigh high stockings. She completed the look with silver lace up knee boots and a Swarovski crystal necklace.
Although the concert lasted only 15 minutes, it featured a full scale production. The performance included dancers, a DJ and a rotating stage, creating an energetic atmosphere for fans in attendance.
During the show, Madonna performed some of her well known songs, including Hung Up and I Love New York. Both tracks originally appeared on her 2005 album, Confessions on a Dance Floor.
The event was organised in partnership with Grindr, which has been involved in promotional activities related to Madonna’s new album. Last week, the singer released a video through the platform in which she was interviewed by friends including Bob The Drag Queen and playwright Jeremy O Harris. During that conversation, Madonna made headlines when she revealed that the best sex of her life was with John F. Kennedy Jr.
Confessions II, which serves as a follow up to Confessions on a Dance Floor, was released on Wednesday. Speaking about the project, Madonna shared her thoughts on the album’s inspiration.
She said, “Confessions Il is a love letter to dance music and to all the spaces and communities that create it or enjoy it.”
“The dance floor isn’t about a specific space or building, it’s wherever we gather to dance, celebrate and connect,” she continued. “Thank you for being a part of this moment and for supporting my music. See you on the Dance Floor!”
Earlier this week, Madonna also marked the beginning of Pride Month with a social media post. Sharing a video of herself smoking, she wrote, “Nothing like a Mothers Love……Happy Pride month 🏳️🌈. See You Soon!”
The singer has remained active in recent months with several high profile appearances. In April, Sabrina Carpenter brought Madonna on stage as a surprise guest during her second weekend performance at Coachella. The appearance marked 20 years since Madonna headlined the music festival in 2006.
Madonna is also scheduled to headline the first halftime show in FIFA World Cup 2026 history. She will perform alongside Shakira and BTS on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
