Vanvaas , directed by Anil Sharma and starring Nana Patekar,  Utkarsh Sharma,  and Simrat Kaur had an underwhelming start at the box office, collecting just ₹75 lakh on its opening day. The film’s lackluster debut can be attributed to limited audience interest, stiff competition, and mixed word-of-mouth reviews.

Vanvaas faced tough competition from Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which continues to dominate screens.
With Varun Dhawan’s Baby John set to release on Christmas, Vanvaas faces an uphill battle to gain traction in the coming days.

Vanvaas is a poignant family drama that explores themes of abandonment, morality, and redemption:
Nana Patekar stars as Deepak Tyagi, a widower suffering from dementia, who is abandoned by his children in Varanasi under the pretense of his death.  Disoriented and alone, Deepak encounters Veeru (Utkarsh Sharma), a petty thief who initially exploits him but later recognizes the gravity of his plight.

Veeru, with help from his girlfriend Mina (Simran Kaur), uncovers a dark underbelly of exploitation, including a fraudulent ashram involved in kidney theft.  The story builds toward a resolution where Veeru and Mina fight to take Deepak back to Shimla, confront his negligent children, and seek justice.

While Nana Patekar’s heartfelt performance has drawn praise, the film’s emotional drama and slower narrative have failed to appeal to the masses.
In an era dominated by action-packed entertainers and franchise films, Vanvaas struggled to generate the buzz necessary for a strong opening.

For Vanvaas to recover at the box office, it will need strong word-of-mouth and a better response in smaller markets where family dramas often resonate. However, with competition intensifying and the genre being less appealing in 2024, the film’s long-term success seems uncertain.

Despite its important message and compelling premise, Vanvaas couldn’t find its audience on day one. Whether it can carve out a niche amid fierce competition remains to be seen.
