The animated feature Mufasa: The Lion King, directed by Barry Jenkins, is seeing a strong run in Indian cinemas. Dubbed versions, especially the ones featuring the voices of Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu, have really well worked for the movie, helping it to bring in crowds from all parts of India, which the combination of nostalgia and a festival has helped the film reach the audience.

1. Weekend Growth:
The film opened decently at Rs 7 crore on Friday. However, the film gained good momentum over the weekend, with Saturday bringing in Rs 11 crore and Sunday an excellent Rs 14.50 crore. That is very strong growth, which bodes well for word of mouth and audience interest.

3. Holiday Boost & Upcoming Competition:
With Christmas Day expected to drive large crowds to theaters, Mufasa is poised to cross the Rs 50 crore mark on Day 6. The film could benefit from the festive atmosphere leading up to New Year’s weekend. However, the release of Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan, could impact screen counts and footfalls in the coming days.

4. Estimated Lifetime Run:
Based on the current trends, Mufasa: The Lion King is likely to wrap up its Indian box office in the range of Rs 70 crore to Rs 80 crore.

Day-Wise Collections Recap:
Friday 7 crore
Saturday 11 crore
Sunday 14.50 crore
Monday 5.50 crore
Tuesday 7 crore
Total 45 crore

The superstar voiceovers and festive season have seen Mufasa: The Lion King going great guns. Well, this is no surprise for an animated movie because in India, such genre movies traditionally appeal to the niche market. For all that it has performed until now, however, this will be tested for consistency post-New Year in view of releases like Baby John.

This is shaping to be one of the amazing runs by Disney in its history over the Indian market with continuity of successful adaptations and franchises.
