Mufasa has roared into Indian cinemas with an impressive first-day collection of Rs. 8.5–9 crore nett, showing great box office potential despite the fact that it is compared with its predecessor, The Lion King (2019), which had a first-day collection of Rs. 11.10 crore nett. Although it managed to garner nearly 80% of the opening day figures of The Lion King in India, the performance is quite better than many international markets where Mufasa has not been able to even touch half of the opening day figures of The Lion King
Dubbed versions constituted two-thirds of the total collections on the first day-a reverse trend from the general trend where the English version of Hollywood films commands a larger share.
The Hindi version, dubbed by Shah Rukh Khan, took the lead, and the Telugu version followed close on its heels.
The Telugu version featuring Mahesh Babu was the real showstealer, chipping in with nearly Rs. 2 crore nett on opening day itself.
This kind of opening for a Hollywood family film is only possible thanks to the star appeal of Mahesh Babu in Telugu circles.

While Hollywood family films generally benefit from huge growth over the weekend-for example, The Lion King had crossed Rs. 11 crores on Friday but witnessed a huge jump to around Rs. 25 crore on Sunday-Mufasa could be slightly deviated due to regional market dynamics:
Telugu box office: On Day 1, though, the Telugu collection was massive, it seems to be frontloaded on weekends when the star value triggers it.
The English and Hindi versions would be the ones to take this weekend forward in metros and multiplexes. With this kind of steady performance in markets, Mufasa can reach the weekend total of Rs. 30 crore nett with a strong hold as a family entertainer during the holidays.
