Kichcha Sudeep’s action thriller Max started its box office run on a high, recording the highest opening for a Sandalwood film in 2024 at Rs 8.7 crores on Day 1. However, the film saw a sharp 54% drop on the second day and raked in just Rs 4 crores, according to Sacnik.

Released on Christmas (25 Dec, 2024), the film had bagged Rs 12.7 crores in the Kannada box office so far, within two days of the movie. The drastic fall from Day 1 into Day 2 and all said positive reviews will dilute the excitement now, of course.

Max still has an added benefit of a prolonged first weekend of 5 days that may help the movie create new records. The film needs Rs 3.51 crores more to become the biggest opening weekend for any film in Sandalwood this year surpassing UI with its total of Rs 16.21 crores.

1. UI: Rs 16.21 crores –
2. Martin: Rs 13.43 crores
3. Bagheera: Rs 11.61 crores 4. Bheema: Rs 11.48 crores 5. Bhairathi Ranagal: Rs 7.25 crores 6. Yuva: Rs 5.26 crores 7. Pushpa 2 (Kannada): Rs 3.55 crores 8. Upadhyaksha: Rs 1.9 crores 9. Kalki 2898 AD (Kannada): Rs 1.8 crores 10. Devara Part 1 (Kannada): Rs 1.05 crores

While the dip on Day 2 is alarming, the Christmas release date and long weekend might help Max recover. With excellent word-of-mouth and star power of Sudeep, the movie can break all records and emerge at the top of the chart for the biggest opening weekend of the year. Audiences are optimistic that the thriller will continue to soar in the coming days.
