Amazon Prime Video has released the first teaser for Carrie, a new television adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror novel. The streaming platform has also confirmed that all 8 episodes of the series will be released on October 7. The upcoming show presents a fresh version of the well known story while staying true to the central themes of fear, bullying and supernatural powers that made the original novel a classic.
According to the official description, the series is “a bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother.” The story begins after the sudden death of Carrie’s father, forcing her to leave the isolated life she has always known. She enters a public high school where she struggles to fit in while dealing with bullying and difficult social situations. At the same time, she begins to discover mysterious telekinetic powers that gradually change her life.
The official logline further explains, “After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.” The teaser offers a glimpse of these events and sets the tone for a suspense filled horror drama.
The series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, while Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell and Matthew Lillard appears as Principal Grayle. The cast also includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy and Joel Oulette as Tommy.
The project is led by filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who serves as the writer, executive producer, showrunner and director of the series. Trevor Macy is also an executive producer, while Amazon MGM Studios is producing the show. The adaptation was first reported to be in development in October 2024, before receiving an official series order from Amazon in April 2025.
Stephen King’s Carrie has been adapted for the screen several times over the years. The first film version, released in 1976, became a major success and earned Academy Award nominations. It was followed by a sequel in 1999, a television movie in 2002 and another remake in 2013. The new 8 episode series now brings the iconic horror story back to audiences with a modern approach while exploring the same themes of isolation, bullying and extraordinary powers that have made the story popular for decades.
