Netflix is preparing to release a new young adult drama titled Crew Girl, and the streaming platform has now released its first trailer. The series follows a teenage rower whose life changes completely after a major family problem forces her and her mother to move to a new place. The eight episode series will arrive on Netflix on September 10.
The story centres on 16 year old Teagan Tao, played by Miku Martineau. Teagan is introduced as a talented high school student and successful rower. Her life takes an unexpected turn when information about her father’s wrongdoings becomes public. The situation forces Teagan and her mother Ella, played by Jessica Paré, to leave their previous life behind and start again on the East Coast.
Teagan soon joins an elite prep school, where she takes on a very different challenge. She becomes the coxswain of an all boys rowing team that is already struggling with internal problems. As the person responsible for guiding the team during races, Teagan has to find a way to work with a group of boys who do not always see eye to eye.
The trailer suggests that the story will focus on more than rowing competitions. Teagan’s new school life brings her into contact with rivals, complicated relationships and friendships that become difficult to maintain. These problems are expected to affect both her personal life and her time with the rowing team.
The series has been created by Vivian Lin, with Morwyn Brebner also involved in developing the show for television. The cast includes Sam Braun as Josh Regis, Kyle Clark as Cam Dillinger, Jessica Paré as Teagan’s mother Ella and Thomas Cadrot as Coach Matt Hayden.
Crew Girl is produced by Great Pacific Media, the scripted and unscripted live action division of Thunderbird Entertainment. With its focus on teenage relationships, family problems, school life and competitive rowing, the series is set to explore Teagan’s journey as she adjusts to an unfamiliar environment while dealing with changes in her family and friendships.
Crew Girl will premiere on Netflix on September 10 with eight episodes.
