The much-anticipated Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale has hit a legal snag ahead of its November 18, 2024, release. Actor-producer Dhanush has filed a ₹10 crore copyright case against the film for using a 3-second clip from the 2015 movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which he produced. This unexpected legal battle has prompted a strong response from Nayanthara herself.

Nayanthara’s Open Letter
Taking to Instagram, Nayanthara shared an open letter addressed to Dhanush, expressing her shock and disappointment. She accused him of using the copyright claim as a tool of vengeance and questioned his integrity.

An excerpt from her letter read:
“This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans, but you clearly do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner.”

She further revealed the emotional toll this legal action has taken on her and her team, emphasizing that the footage in question was shot on personal devices and is freely available on social media.

Nayanthara also recalled how Dhanush’s “ego was supremely hurt” after the blockbuster success of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, suggesting underlying tensions between them.

A Call for Love and Respect
In closing, Nayanthara urged Dhanush to embrace generosity and respect the effort behind the documentary, saying:
“Love should prevail above everything else.”

About the Documentary
Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale will offer fans an intimate look into the actress’ life, showcasing behind-the-scenes moments, her illustrious career, personal milestones, and awards. Slated for release on Netflix, the documentary aims to celebrate her journey as the “Lady Superstar” of Tamil cinema.

The Legal Dispute
Dhanush’s ₹10 crore lawsuit, centered on the use of a brief clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, highlights the complexities of copyright law in entertainment. His refusal to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has cast a shadow over the release of the documentary.

As the situation unfolds, fans of both stars eagerly await a resolution, hoping it won’t mar the celebration of Nayanthara’s legacy.
