Rannvijay Singha: Films are bigger than other mediums is an illusion

0

Actor-TV host Rannvijay Singha, who has worked in the film and television space, says it's just a perception that the movie platform is bigger than other mediums.

Rannvijay, who started out his journey as the winner of MTV "Roadies" and has since worked in a plethora of shows, has featured in films like SHARAFAT GAYI TEL LENE, MOD, ACTION REPLAYY and LONDON DREAMS.

Asked why is he not doing films that much, Rannvijay told IANS here: "There is a big thing that people say that 'A film has come'. It takes an entire year to work in a film, then promote it and then it releases… But when I work (on TV) for six months, it shows for the next two years. It is just an illusion that films are big than other (mediums)."

For him, films aren't necessarily priority.

"If I have a hit show on the Internet or TV, then it is bigger than some films… Till the time there is no fun in a film or if I am not getting an interesting character or if it coming in the way of my other things, films won't get a priority just because it's a film that is only in our heads," he added.

Rannvijay said he is doing good till the time he is balancing his work right.

"I am doing a small film this year. I did Punjabi films and I just finished a web series… So, acting can happen in a one-minute Instagram thing, web-series, TV and films. Till the time I can do all of it in the right balance, I am good," he said.

On the work front, Rannvijay is currently seen on the 15th season of the youth based reality show "Roadies Xtreme" on MTV. He was here to shoot a task for it.

Set audience to stun:  Tarantino to make the next STAR TREK film

0

It is not every day we get to see a hardened genre specific director to boldly go where no other has gone before, and this is where ace film director Quentin Tarantino comes into play. He has been a self-professed fan of the STAR TREK franchise for quite some years and after the recent controversy that shrouded him in recent he has sit the news once again after pitching a STAR TREK story to J.J. Abrams who is the executive producer of the franchise.

Speaking on this writer and actor Simon Pegg said, “I don’t think he’s written an R-rated Star Trek script. I think what happened is he went to J.J. [Abrams] with an idea that he has had for a while – I remember he told us about it a long time ago. I think he told me and Edgar [Wright], about it a long time ago. He just put it to J.J. and J.J. is considering putting it into a writing room. We got an email just saying ‘Guess who came in the office the other day!’ So, I don’t know much about it, other than the fact that it is sort of in the mix. So, we will see.”

Tarantino films have always had their own defining feel to them with argumentative dialogues and plot driven sequences which but recently it was revealed that screenwriter Mark L. Smith had been attached to write the screenplay which is a direct contrast to the Tarantino’s film style where dialogues are key elements of his films while Smith’s last film THE REVENANT featured less dialogue and showed the actions and the will to survive and revenge driven story.

Hopefully the coming together of these writing geniuses will amount to the greatest STAR TREK film of all but that still is a long way off as Quentin Tarantino is currently working on making his next film, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.

Amitabh Bachchan: Tearing away from formalities of celebrity is a task

0

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says that no matter how much others celebrate his contribution to Indian cinema, it will remain a closed chapter for him. However, he feels that tearing oneself away from the celebrity is a task and he doesn't believe in it.

Filled with gratitude after his meetings with fans who stand outside his home Jalsa here every Sunday to get a glimpse of him, Big B posted his thoughts on his blog.

"What brings them here each Sunday is a mystery and a cause for mistaken identity… Surely they must mistake for another… surely… But no they come …standing and waiting for hours before, just so they can wave at me and hope for a reciprocal gesture… That is all… Mostly the operation is valid and over within those minor minutes… and then back to the grind.

"Tearing oneself away from the formalities of celebrity is a task… I do not believe in it and never shall… others may wish to contribute and celebrate the tenure and so called 'contribution' to cinema from me. But that shall never happen. It shall remain a closed chapter … not to be opened ever."

Big B was touched with a visit by a differently challenged young boy.

"I asked him to be brought in, he was without speech and mobility but a determined poise of one that had refused to give up. It was joy to witness the joy on his face. I asked him what he needed, he tugged at his shirt… clothes. I gave him a bundle of my own.

"He extended his delicate hand, rough and strong, because that is what he uses to move about, and I arranged fro him to be dropped home. My people did so and reported he was homeless and lived on the pavement out side a high rise in the suburbs," said the actor, adding that it is important for people to count their blessings.

Disney India, in a move to expand its localisation efforts, has signed on Rana to lend his voice for the villainous character.

Spielberg doesn’t think Netflix movies deserve Oscars

0

Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg thinks Netflix films are 'TV movies', and shouldnt get Oscar consideration.

Since Netflix began distributing movies, the industry has been rife with contention about whether such films deserve the same recognition as traditional, theatrically released films, particularly when it comes to the Academy Awards.

Spielberg shared his views in an interview with ITV News, reports variety.com.

"Once you commit to a television format, you're a TV movie. You certainly, if it's a good show, deserve an Emmy, but not an Oscar. I don't believe films that are just given token qualifications in a couple of theatres for less than a week should qualify for the Academy Award nomination," Spielberg said.

Netflix just started gaining awards recognition for films like Dee Rees' MUDBOUND, which received a one-week theatrical release here and New York, and Ava DuVernay's "13th", which did not release in theatres and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 2016 Academy Awards.

DUNKIRK director Christopher Nolan has also weighed in on Netflix, calling the streaming giant's release plans 'bizarre' and 'mindless'.

He later apologised to Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, however, calling his remarks "undiplomatic".

The controversy has also spread to question the place of Netflix films at festivals, with the premiere of Netflix's OKJA at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival being met with boos as the Netflix logo displayed on the screen.

Cannes established a rule after last year's festival that in the future, any films that are selected for competition must also commit to a theatrical distribution.

In a recent interview, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux said that Netflix and Amazon do represent "something important" and that "we will eventually come up with a good agreement because in order for a film to become part of history, it must go through theaters, box office, the critics, the passion of cinephiles, awards campaigns, books, directories, filmographies. All this is part of a tradition on which the history of film is based."
