Rohit Roy: Ronit is more like a father figure

0

Actor Rohit Roy says he cant love anyone as much as he loves his brother and actor Ronit Roy.

"My childhood memories of Ronit are very dear and special because growing up, we only had each other. I was terribly shy and hence wouldn't make friends easily. He was my brother and friend rolled into one," Rohit said in a statement.

The actor, on behalf of Star Movies for the Indian television premiere of THE BOSS BABY on Sunday, added: "My fondest memory is when a kid tried to bully me and Ronit ran for a mile, caught up with him and beat him up. I knew then that I was safe for life! Now he's more like a father figure. I don't think I can love anyone as much as I love him."

Actress Nimrat Kaur also spoke about her sister Rubina Singh, who is a psychologist in Bengaluru.

"I have many memories with my baby sister but there is one that comes to mind which she hates me for but we laugh about it all the time," she said.

She recalled: "It was her birthday, we were in Patiala at that time and I remember we were playing outside the house somewhere in the garden and there was a..what seemed like a wasp that was dead on the ground so I thought it would be very funny to pick it up and scare her with that and throw it at her, which I did.

"Only that the wasp wasn't dead, it was alive and it bit her on the eye and flew off. So the poor thing had a swollen eye, three times the size of her forehead on her birthday and she wouldn't stop crying. She hates me for it still because it was just so badly timed and a complete disaster."

Actress Minissha Lamba said her brother Karan is a "great friend" to her.

"This trailer will give audiences a glimpse of these beautiful emotions through two very talented new faces," Kutty added.

With music by A.R. Rahman, cinematography is done by Anil Mehta and Hindi dialogues by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Mahira Khan: Bollywood was never really the aim

0

Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who made her Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer RAEES last year, says the Hindi film industry was never her aim.

RAEES released in January 2017, just a few months after bilateral tensions intensified between India and Pakistan over the September 18, 2016 Uri attack that left 19 Indian soldiers dead and the September 28 surgical strikes by India on Pakistan terror camps.

Mahira spoke about the impact of the tensions on the countries' film industries on "HARDtalk on BBC World News".

RAEES did not release in Pakistan. And Mahira was not allowed to promote the film in India as the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena gave an ultimatum to Pakistani artistes to leave the country and to keep away from its showbiz.

"At that time I was angry. I was sad and angry and there were moments of disappointment and just hurt, you know. Now I've come to a place where I believe that anger doesn't really make me a better actor. It doesn't do anything for me as a person, so I've let go of that, because at that time I was in the mix of it," said Mahira.

Didn't it stall her career in a way?

"Bollywood was never really the aim actually. I mean sure you could argue that I could have done more films there, for sure I could have. But right after RAEES I had already started working on (Pakistani film) VERNA, even before all of this happened. My focus was always Pakistan," she said.

She said people may perceive that it was a "big jolt" to her career — and it was — but she has moved on.

"Currently I just feel it's just something else to be working and be part of this movement of the film industry (in Pakistan) at the moment.

"Because how I look at it, is that 20 years from now when either my son or kids from today want to become actors, we would have set this industry for them, which they won't have to struggle so much," added the 33-year-old actress, who has a son named Azlaan.

Her upcoming film VERNA which is based on the rape culture and politics in Pakistan, has reportedly rubbed many in Pakistan the wrong way. With a strong problem of freedom to express getting suppressed in Pakistan, has she ever considered shifting base to another country?

Mahira: "I don't think that I can tell any story better than the story of my own country, than the stories of my own countrymen. I want to be able to bring out stories like VERNA, as well as stories which are of the modern and new generation like HO MANN JAHAAN, which is a film I did of the youth of Pakistan. So I want to be that person.

"Also, because we are artistes, I think that's a problem we all suffer. We are dreamers, so we are constantly looking at this is going to happen, and this is honestly all I am thinking about all the time, that one day I will go to a cinema house and there just won't be enough space to fill it."

Mahira is currently filming for SAAT DIN MOHABBAT IN and MAULA JATT 2.

The "HARDtalk on BBC World News" episode with Mahira will air on Monday.

Rani’s slow HICHKI, a successful RAID for Ajay – Ileana!

0

The major release of the week, YRF’s Rani Mukerji starrer HICHKI, started on a slow note (15 percent), but the film did show a small pick up towards the latter shows, at good cinemas of ‘A’ cities.

While all that is about the start and culmination of the opening day, the film is expected to be in the 3-4 crore range, a satisfactory outcome. And despite the start, the well made HICHKI has decent chances of scoring during the opening weekend, as it is not a very expensive project.

The other prominent release of the week, Manish Paul’s BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP could not make much of a mark at the ticket window.

Meanwhile, the prominent release last week, Raj Kumar Gupta’s Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla and Ileana D’Cruz starrer, RAID, managed a good show, despite a not so great opening day, thanks to a good weekend and steady weekdays. The film has netted in the 60-61 crore range and is sure to end up as a successful venture.

Concluding yet again with SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY, the film added another 7 crore thus netting 96 crore (to be validated) in four weeks from India and is a super duper hit.
