Boney Kapoor acquires remake rights of Tamil political satire Thailaivar Thambi Thalimaiyil

Producer Boney Kapoor buys remake rights of the Tamil film Thailaivar Thambi Thalimaiyil, set against rural politics and satire.

Producer Boney Kapoor has acquired the remake rights of the Tamil political satire Thailaivar Thambi Thalimaiyil (TTT), which released during the Pongal period and continues to perform steadily at the box office, supported by positive word-of-mouth. Set in a rural village, the film centres on a panchayat leader whose authority is tested when a wedding and a funeral are scheduled on the same day, triggering a chain of events marked by political manoeuvring and personal rivalries. The narrative uses satire and humour to examine local power structures, ego conflicts and family dynamics within a grounded rural setting.

Kapoor reportedly watched the film earlier this year during a visit to Coimbatore, where he was attending the Celebrity Cricket League. He viewed Thailaivar Thambi Thalimaiyil at a local theatre and is said to have responded positively to its storytelling approach, performances and the balance it strikes between political commentary and comedy.

Following the screening, Boney Kapoor initiated discussions with the film’s producers regarding the remake rights. These conversations continued over the subsequent weeks and were further taken forward at the film’s success celebration held in Chennai last Friday, which Kapoor attended as a guest.

The negotiations were subsequently concluded, with Kapoor finalising the acquisition of the remake rights. Details regarding the language, casting and production timeline of the remake are yet to be announced.
