A recent wedding ceremony hosted by producer Aakash Baskaran, who is collaborating with Dhanush for the upcoming film Idli Kadai, became a talking point when Tamil actors Dhanush and Nayanthara attended but noticeably ignored each other. This marks their first public appearance under the same roof since Nayanthara’s open letter addressing her legal issues with Dhanush went viral. It was only a viral video from the wedding that shows the two seated in the front row, at opposite ends, not interacted.
Dhanush seemed keen on the affair, while Nayanthara is found having a conversation with another guest. It is over the usage of behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, where this dispute has arisen between the two. He co-produced Dhanush and the filmmakers. He had apparently filed a case against Nayanthara and her team for using the footage without obtaining a No Objection Certificate. Nayanthara countered the claims in an open letter, stating that she has been sending NOCs two years ago but Dhanush’ team is not responding. She criticized his alleged uncooperative nature as well.
Dhanush has not responded to this so far, but his father, Kasthuri Raja, laughed away Nayanthara’s claims in an interview with The Times of India’s Samayam. He declared that she was lying when stating that she had waited two years for the NOC and said Dhanush, as he does, remains focused on work rather than controversies. Kasthuri was also surprised by the relationship between Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan, who started working together during the making of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
The Netflix documentary, released earlier this week, chronicles Nayanthara’s personal and professional journey, the disputed footage an interesting backdrop to her love story with Vignesh Shivan. Yet neither Dhanush nor Nayanthara seems ready to put an end to the legal tussle as witnessed by the cold interaction between the two of them at the wedding.
