Samantha Ruth Prabhu has finally reacted to the gruesome Kolkata rape and murder case. On Tuesday, the actress attended an event in Mumbai where she was asked about women’s safety with regard to the horrific case in Kolkata. Samantha called for change and shared that women’s safety should be our priority now.

“It is the need of the hour and we are really looking forward to some change. It is the need of the hour. I hope the change comes really soon,” she said at the World Pickleball event. Samantha Ruth Prabhu has ventured into the sports industry by becoming the owner of the Chennai franchise in the World Pickleball League. This league, set to start its inaugural season from January 24 to February 2, 2025, in Chennai, aims to popularize pickleball in India. The announcement was made at a press conference attended by Samantha and the league’s founders, Gaurav Natekar and Arvind Prabhoo. Samantha Ruth Prabhu is not the first actress who has expressed anger to the Kolkata rape and murder case of a doctor in Kolkata. Last week, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Preity Zinta also reacted to the incident. “12 years later, the same story, the same protest. But we are still waiting for change,” Kareena wrote. On the other hand, Preity Zinta also expressed anger and called the Kolkata rape and murder case “heartbreaking” and “disgusting”. She further mentioned that it was time to prioritize women’s safety and hoped for strict punishments for the accused.

Later, Hrithik Roshan also demanded ‘harsh’ punishment for the accused and wrote on X, “Yes we need to evolve into a society where we ALL feel equally safe. But that is going to take decades. It’s going to hopefully happen with sensitizing and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better. We will get there. Eventually. But what in the interim? Right now justice would be to put a hard stop to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is a punishment so harsh that it scares the living daylights out of such perpetrators. That’s what we need. Perhaps?”

Previously, Kangana Ranaut also called the incident “horrible” and demanded a CBI probe into the case. Alia Bhatt, Swara Bhasker and Richa Chadha also expressed their outrage and demanded justice.

Alia Bhatt also expressed her outrage and wrote, “Another brutal rape. Another day of realisation that women are not safe, anywhere,” drawing a direct comparison to the Nirbhaya tragedy that shook India over a decade ago.
