Dibaker: Nawazuddin Siddiqui stayed in a ‘jhuggi’ for BOMBAY TALKIES!

Receiving all round accolades, the centre of attraction in this Friday’s release, BOMBAY TALKIES, is the Dibaker Banerjee episode starring the actor par excellence, Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Not believing in going overboard and talking about himself, the very humble and quite media shy Nawaz had told us that he believes in preparing for any role that he takes up, and just a few days back we had also informed our patrons the reasons behind his brilliance. But nothing had prepared us for this revelation that we came to know, not through the man himself, but Dibaker Banerjee, the maverick director.

While talking to the vernacular press as to why he chose Nawazuddin as the main lead of the episode that he had directed for BOMBAY TALKIES, Dibaker revealed, ”I simply could not think of anyone more suited for the character than Nawaz. He is one of the few great actors in our Hindi film industry. When I met Nawaz I told him that he would be essaying the role of a slum dweller (‘chawl’ in Mumbai lingo) and he agreed readily. Not only that Nawaz spent almost two or three days on the location (in a real ‘jhuggi’) to get the hang of the character. In fact, we completed our shooting in the ‘jhuggi’ itself to make things look realistic.” Dibaker rounds of by adding, ”I don’t think that I can find a more dedicated and committed actor (and brilliant as well!) than Nawaz.”
