Bollywood box-office report of the week : 6 february 2014

This Friday will see three major releases, Dharma and Phantom Productions' HASEE TOH PHASEE, the next offering from the I AM KALAM team, BABLOO HAPPY HAI and last but not the least, the Adhyayan Suman starrer, HEARTLESS. As things stand, the front runner by a long margin is going to be the Sidharth, Adah and Parineeti starrer HASEE TOH PHASEE (thanks to the excellent promotions), followed by BABLOO HAPPY HAI and HEARTLESS.

Last week's major release, the Abhay Deol starrer, ONE BY TWO, turned out to be a film which was patronized neither by the masses nor the classes. While Abhay Deol may not be a top commercial star, but still the two crore weekend was a big setback for all concerned with the film.

After a good weekend (of 60 crore) the Sohail Khan directed Salman Khan starrer fell heavily Tuesday onwards. The best performance of JAI HO comes from the Gujarat-Saurashtra and Maharashtra belt. During the first week JAI HO collected 8.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 3 crore from Ahmedabad, 60 lakhs from Baroda, 90 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.15 crore from Pune, 45 lakhs from Nasik, 22 lakhs from Goa, 11.15 lakhs from Belgaum, 6.50 crore from Delhi city, 78 lakhs from Noida, 95 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 60 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.05 crore from Lucknow, 10 lakhs from Agra, 27 lakhs from Allahabad, 15.50 lakhs from Aligarh, 90 lakhs from Gurgaon, 22 lakhs from Faridabad, 9 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 14 lakhs from Panipat, 47.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 22.15 lakhs from Amritsar, 23.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 10 lakhs from Bhatinda, 9.65 lakhs from Jammu, 1.15 crore from Calcutta, 2.75 lakhs from Darjeeling, 17 lakhs from Siliguri, 11.65 lakhs from Patna, 8.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 16.25 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 5.55 lakhs from Guwahati, 90.25 lakhs from Nagpur, 38 lakhs from Jabalpur, 65 lakhs from Raipur, 1.15 crore from Indore (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 14 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 55.15 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 6 cinemas unreceived), 2.55 crore from Jaipur, 70 lakhs from Jodhpur, 30.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 21 lakhs from Bikaner, 44.25 lakhs from Kota, 30 lakhs from Udaipur, 2 crore from Hyderabad, 31.65 lakhs from Aurangabad, 1.25 crore from Bangalore, 9.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 5.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 6.50 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 11 lakhs from Madras, 2 lakhs from Coimbatore, 5.50 lakhs from Kochi and 1.75 lakhs from Madurai. Netting 85 crore during the opening week, JAI HO will have to show good legs in the second week as well to be termed a good success. JAI HO has done well in the overseas (especially US) grossing $5.4m with ?413,000 from UK and $1,187,500 from the US till the second weekend (January 31- February 2).

Meanwhile Abhishek Chaubey's DEDH ISHQIYA managed a reasonable week (despite JAI HO), as it collected 25 lakhs from Bombay, 2.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.50 lakhs from Pune, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 2.55 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 3 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Chandigarh, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 10 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1.50 crore, DEDH ISHQIYA has netted 30.50 crore in three weeks from India and is an average to below average fare.

Moving on, the Divya Khosla Kumar directed YAARIYAN added some more to its kitty as it collected 10 lakhs from Bombay, 4 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Pune, 10 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.50 lakhs from Noida, 2 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 1.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Raipur, 1.50 lakhs from Indore 2.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another crore YAARIYAN has netted a good 39 crore in three weeks from India and is a semi-hit, based on the very reasonable costs.
