The duo’s close bond off-screen seemed to echo their on-screen journey, where their characters rebuild their fractured relationship by the end of S*x Education.
Swindells tied the knot with actress Amber Anderson, and the two reportedly first met while working on the 2020 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, directed by Autumn de Wilde. The director, who played a pivotal role in their meeting, was also present at the wedding and gave a touching speech during the reception, further solidifying her importance in their lives. Anderson shared with Vogue how much it meant to have de Wilde speak at their wedding, describing her as a “spiritual guardian” and a close friend.
In Emma, Swindells portrayed Robert Martin, a farmer who wins the heart of Harriet Smith, while Anderson played Jane Fairfax, a rival for the attention of Frank Churchill. Since then, Anderson has appeared in The Souvenir Part II and Peaky Blinders as Diana Mitford. Swindells, after finishing S*x Education in 2023, appeared in Barbie as intern Aaron Dinkins and took on a role in *William Tell*, a historical drama that premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
