Is Leonardo DiCaprio the new face of Squid Game? Netflix drops exciting update

Netflix quickly debunked rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio would appear in Season 3 of the series Squid Game. The rumors indicating that DiCaprio filmed a small role for the show under wraps back in 2024 are “completely false,” according to a Netflix representative. Speculations were circulated among fans at first, but Netflix’s official statement gave these rumors an end since there was no truth behind them saying that DiCaprio was involved.

The rumors claimed that Leonardo’s role in the upcoming season would be kept under wraps, and all character details would be very closely guarded so as not to spoil anything. However, with Netflix’s clarification, fans can be certain that the Titanic and Inception stars will not be making an appearance in Squid Game’s third season.

On the other hand, the buzz surrounding Squid Game itself remains very real. Recently, Netflix revealed that Squid Game Season 3 is now officially scheduled for 2025, a date many have longed to know, especially following the success of the show’s second season. The show is one of the biggest global phenomenons; and Squid Game Season 2 was not left behind since it recorded a whopping 68 million views in its first week, creating a new record for Netflix for any series’ most-watched first week ever. With this exciting update, Netflix released a special teaser poster for Season 3. The poster will feature a haunted image of Young Hee, that infamous doll from the game “Red Light, Green Light,” and a new addition, the robot Cheol Su that emerged after the post-credits scene of Season 2’s finale. This teaser kind of insinuates more surprises and, hopefully, some twists that will keep fans interested in the upcoming season. The success of Squid Game has been nothing short of phenomenal.

When Squid Game Season 1 came out in 2021, it became a global phenomenon as its dark take on survival games and high stakes for survival touched a chord in global audiences. In a recent interview, the show’s director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, spoke about the long journey that led to this success. What started off 15 years ago as a two-hour film was unable to interest financiers or actors in it.

It wasn’t until Hwang reimagined it as a TV series and pitched it to Netflix that the project found a home and exploded into the global sensation it is today. Reflecting on its unexpected success, Hwang admitted, “I never in my wildest dreams thought it was going to be this huge.” As people wait with bated breath for Season 3 of Squid Game, they might have to hold out a little longer for news on the third season, given Netflix’s denial regarding DiCaprio. It will not be too long, however, as fans are guaranteed a new spark each time casting rumors or teaser posters come in with the latest about the story moving forward.
